Zahir Khan (Afgan): A Brief Biography

Zahir Khan Biography


Born on 20 December 1998 in Afghanistan, Zahir Khan is an Afghan cricketer. He is a slow left-arm Chinaman bowler and a left-handed batsman.


He was recently bought for Rs 60 Lakhs by the Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals for the 2018 edition of the cash rich league.


Background


Zahir hails from Paktika in Afghanistan where cricket is not much popular. He started playing at a young age but his family was opposed to it. He decided to continue and later received their support after excelling in the game.


He was included in the Under-19 squad and represented Afghanistan at the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He played 4 matches and took a solitary wicket in the tournament as Afghanistan was defeated in the semi-final.


Debut


Zahir made his first class debut in November 2015 against Papua New Guinea at Sharjah. He took 3 wickets in the first innings and 4 wickets in the second innings as Afghanistan won the match by 201 runs.


He made his List A debut for Band-e-Amir against Speen Ghar at Khost in August 2017. He gave an impressive performance as he took 6 wickets and ended with figures of 6.1-0-36-6.


He made his T20 debut the next month at Kabul against Mis Ainak Knights and took 2 wickets ending with figures of 3-0-33-2.


Records


Zahir is still a young cricketer and has a long way to go. He has impressed many with his skills and hard work and can soon represent his country at the highest level. He is currently playing domestic cricket.


In the 6 First Class matches he has played, he has taken 31 wickets at 11.74 including one fifer. In the List A matches, he has taken 12 wickets at 20.33 including one fifer. He has managed to take 15 wickets at 13.53 in 8 T20s that he has played.
