Afsar Zazai: A Brief Biography
Afsar Khan zazai is an Afghan cricketer who was born on 10 August 1993 at Kabul in Afghanistan. He is a right handed wicket keeper batsman and plays as the main wicket keeper for his team. His most notable achievement is being the first wicketkeeper from Afghanistan to play Test Cricket.
Debut
Afsar Zazai made his Test debut on 14 June 2018 against India at Bengaluru. However, he scored only 6 runs in the first inning and 1 run in the second innings and ended up on the losing side as Afghanistan lost the match by an innings and 262 runs. He took two catches behind the wicket in the match.
The One Day International debut for Afsar Zazai came on 28 November 2014 against United Arab Emirates at Abu Dhabi. He scored 60 runs off 109 balls and successfully executed a catch and a stumping. However, UAE won the match by 5 wickets.
Afsar Zazai made his T20 international debut at Sharjah against Kenya on 11 October 2013. He could not score more than 9 runs and took one catch behind the wickets. The match was won by Kenya by a margin of 34 runs.
The First Class debut for Afsar Zazai came on 2 April 2012 against the Netherlands in the 2012 ICC Intercontinental Cup at Sharjah. He showed a brilliant performance in the match and took 5 catches behind the wicket. Also, he scored an unbeaten 84 runs in the second innings of the match which led to an afghan victory by 3 wickets.
Afsar made his List A debut in Hyderabad (Sindh) against Hyderabad & Karachi and took two catches behind the wickets. However, he did not get a chance to bat as Afghanistan cricket team won the match by 9 wickets in only 18.4 overs.
Rise to Glory
Afsar Zazai was always reckoned for his wicket keeping skills and he earned a spot in the 2010 U-19 World Cup for Afghanistan. He also went on to play the 2012 U-19 World Cup which was held in Australia. After returning from the World Cup, he was selected in the national T20I team of Afghanistan. Gradually he became a part of the One Day International squad as well as the Test team of Afghanistan.
Low Points
While Afsar is a good wicket keeper and idolises the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, but he struggles to perform with the bat. Due to this reason, he has lost his position in various squads, but his performance is enhancing day by day, leading to a stable position in the national team.
Club Career
Afsar Zazai has played for Kabul Zawanan franchise in the 2018-19 season of Afghanistan Premier League, however his performance wasn’t notable in the League as he played only one match and scored 6 runs off 13 balls.
