Clint McKay Biography
Clinton James Mckay was born on February 22 1983 in Melbourne, Victoria Australia. He is right handed fast-medium bowler.
Clint has experienced all the three formats of the game, he has deadly accuracy and skillful deployment of slower deliveries.
Background
McKay started his journey of cricket from a very early age at Pascoe Vale Central Cricket Club in the North West Cricket Association (NWCA).
His time there saw him earn a recognition for himself, representing NWCA at junior levels and even in under 21.
McKay’s performance was a key to getting a chance in Essendon Cricket Club which competes in the Australian premier league.
Debut
Australian team faced a string of injuries to their players in the year 2009, McKay was given a chance to shine against India in the ODI on 5th of November.
In his debut he took three wickets including one of Sachin Tendulkar and gave just 58 runs from his full 10 overs bowled.
McKay made his test debut against West Indies in Perth in December 2009, he was wicketless in the first innings but managed to get one in the second by bowling Denesh Ramdin.
Clint made his T20 debut on 31 October 2010 against Sri Lanka, he bowled out Darren Sammy who was the West Indian skipper in the fourth match.
Rise to Glory
McKay didn't have any impact in the test format of the game, but was a consistent squad member of the Australian team in the ODIs.
His performance in the debut against India in 2009 was a key factor in their victory by just 3 runs.
Down the road of cricketting brilliance on 31st January 2010, McKay earned his first Man of the Match by clinching 4 wickets giving away just 35 runs in 9.3 overs.
A mammoth performance against Sri-Lanka was a testament of his class bowling, taking his first five wicket haul on 7th of November 2010.
Clint’s first hat-trick came in the year 2013 on 14 September against England in Cardiff, dismissing Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Joe Root, however Australia still lost the match.
Four months later on 17 January 2014 Australia were 9/244 against England, McKay contributed in the batting department to win, partnering a score of 57 with James Faulkner for the final wicket.
Club Career
McKay played for Victoria 11 years before retiring. He was also member of Yorkshire CCC in 2010, joining as an overseas player partnering with South African player Herschelle Gibbs.
Although he was purchased for $110,000 by Mumbai Indians in the IPL on 9th January 2011. he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad later in the 2013 IPL.
Retirement
Mckay announced retirement from International and Australian first class cricket on March 30 2016.
He was happy about his glorious 11 years with Victoria and great spells with Australia. However was disappointed for not having more of International cricket in his career books.
