Karan Sunny Sharma is an all-rounder born on October 31, 1998, in Delhi. He is a spin-bowling all-rounder who has represented Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma is a right-handed batter and a right-arm off-break bowler.
The 25-year-old all-rounder has featured in all formats for UP in the domestic circuit. He has been a titan in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League for Kashi Rudras and would be looking forward to replicating the momentum in the IPL as well.

Karan Sharma Domestic Career
Under the captaincy of Priyam Garg, Karan Sharma made his domestic debut for Uttar Pradesh against Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21 season in Alur on January 10, 2021. He fell for a single digit on his T20 debut as Sandeep Sharma bowled him.
A month later, Sharma made his List-A debut for UP against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 season in Bengaluru on February 20, 2021. Under the leadership of Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he bowled 8 overs of off-spin and went wicketless with the ball in the first innings. Sharma opened the batting with Abhishek Goswami and scored 40 runs, before being run out by Devdutt Padikkal.
A few days after being snaffled up by the newly launched Lucknow Super Giants franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction, the Delhi-born all-rounder made his first-class (FC) debut. He represented UP against Vidarbha in Sultanpur in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season and led the team on his FC debut. He could not get going in his maiden Ranji outing as the match ended in a draw.
In the third quarterfinal of the season, Sharma failed to score in the first innings but led the team from the front with a captain’s knock in the second innings. He scored an unbeaten 93 and was adjudged the ‘Player Of The Match.’ He stitched an unbeaten 99-run stand with Prince Yadav for the sixth wicket. The partnership helped UP clinch a semifinal berth against Mumbai.
In the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season, Sharma had a poor run of form with a string of low scores until he struck a crucial knock of an unbeaten 67 against Mumbai. Despite his wrist injury, the UP captain pulled out a stellar two-wicket victory. In the very next game, the 25-year-old all-rounder struck his maiden double century against Assam in Kanpur. He stitched a mammoth partnership just 2 runs short of 300 with fellow double-centurion Aryan Juyal.
In the newly inaugurated Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2023, Sharma was drafted into the Kashi Rudras squad as a marquee player. He not only led the Rudras to the title in the very first edition but was also awarded the ‘Orange Cap’ winner for amassing 660 runs in the tournament and was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player (MVP)’ of the inaugural edition.

The newly founded Lucknow Super Giants think tank signed Karan Sharma for his base price of INR 20 lakhs at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He made his IPL debut against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Pune in that season. He was dismissed by Yash Dayal for 4 runs in his maiden outing.
Sharma played a couple of matches in IPL 2023, but could not get going with the bat. He has yet to showcase his bowling skills in IPL and was released by the Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

Karan Sharma was appointed as the skipper of the Uttar Pradesh team in his Ranji Trophy debut match. He led the team to the semifinals in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season.
