Career

Domestic Career

Dhillon played his first state T20 match on 30 January 2017 against Madhya Pradesh at Jaipur. Tajinder bowled four overs and took four wickets, registering his best figures till date of 4/25 on his debut. Sadly, Team Rajasthan weren’t as good with the bat as they were with the ball and failed to chase the target of 160 runs.

He has played 15 T20s matches, taking 15 wickets and scoring 264 runs. With a batting average of 24.00, he has hit 27 fours and eight sixes and has been not out on three occasions. On 26 February 2017, Tajinder made his List-A debut against Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare trophy at Chennai. He yet again contributed to the bowling with a career best 3/45 from seven overs but Mumbai won the match by five wickets.

Dhillon’s List-A stats read 105 runs from five matches, including an inning of unbeaten 60 runs. He has a batting average of 35.00 and has hit 15 boundaries, six of them being sixes. He has six wickets to his name at a bowling average of 33.5.

Tajinder made his first class debut against Jammu Kashmir in a Ranji Trophy group match held from 6-9 October 2017. He bowled 16 overs at an economy of 3.12. Rajasthan won the first innings, but the second innings saw J&K winning by a huge margin and Rajasthan were placed at the bottom of Group-B.

With 332 runs from six first-class matches, Dhillon has an average of 36.88 that includes 47 fours and two sixes. His career best innings of 134 runs is also his only first-class 100. He has taken ten wickets with an economy of 3.36 and best innings bowled stats of 2/38.

IPL Career

After a string of impressive performances in the domestic circuit, Dhillon was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 55 lakhs in the 2018 IPL auctions. The 175% increase from his base price of 20 lakhs at the auction showed that Mumbai Indians scouts had a lot of faith in his capabilities, although he warmed the bench for the large portion of the two seasons with MI. In the 2020 IPL auction, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab and will be hoping to make his IPL debut and hopefully get a long run. Given that KXIP have several in its middle-order, Dhillon has a good chance of making it in the playing XI.

Background

At the age of eight, Tejinder’s uncle started training him for the rigours of professional cricket. Afterwards he started training at Dholpur academy in Dholpur under the guidance of coach Suminder Tiwari. Tejinder played with Rahul Chahar at the beginning of his career. Both players together played Ranji for Rajasthan and also shared a dressing room.
