Nahid Rana

21-year-old young Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana was born on 2 October 2002 in Chapai Nawabganj.

Nahid Rana plays for the Rajshahi Division at the domestic level and the Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Nahid Rana made his international debut on 22 March 2024 in the Test format against Sri Lanka. He has not played any whiteball format so far.

Nahid Rana started his career in first-class cricket on 31 October 2021 where he played his first match for Rajshahi Division against Barisal Division, where he bowled well and took four wickets in the match.

A big milestone in Nahid Rana's career came in January 2023 when he got the opportunity to make his T20 debut for the Khulna Tigers against Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League.

In his first match, Nahid Rana could not impress much and could take just one wicket and in the entire tournament he got to play only three matches where he took two wickets.

After 1 month, Nahid Rana also got the opportunity to make his List A debut for Shinepukur Cricket Club where he once again performed averagely and could take only two wickets in 9 overs. Nahid Rana started his international career on 22 March 2024. In this Test match against Sri Lanka in Sylhet, Nahid Rana made a century start to his international career by taking three wickets in the first and two wickets in the second.

Nahid Rana played a key role in Bangladesh's first Test series win over Pakistan where he took 6 wickets in four innings of two matches, including 44 runs in the last innings of the second Test, breaking the back of Pakistan by dismissing 4 Pakistani batsmen and helping Bangladesh win the Test series against Pakistan for the first time. Nahid Rana is also included in the ongoing India vs Bangladesh Test series and the Bangladesh team has high expectations from him.

Nahid Rana Domestic Career

On October 31, 2021, Nahid made his debut in the National Cricket League for the Rajshahi Division in the 2021–2022 season. In the 2022–23 National Cricket League, on October 31, 2022, a year later, he accomplished a noteworthy milestone when he claimed his first five-wicket haul in a first-class match against Barishal Division. Having taken 32 wickets in all, he is the second-highest wicket-taker in the competition thanks to his outstanding play.

Nahid's skills were acknowledged in January 2023 when he was chosen to participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the Khulna Tigers in the 2022–2023 season. On January 24, 2023, he played in this tournament for the first time in Twenty20. Nahid bowled four overs on his Khulna Tigers debut, getting one wicket with a run-scoring margin of only twenty. His ability to bowl at 140–148 km/h regularly attracted a lot of attention and demonstrated his potential as a fast bowler.

On March 21, 2023, Nahid made his List A debut for Shinepukur Cricket Club in the 2022–2023 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, following his triumph in the BPL. His remarkable bowling abilities and versatility in many game formats have contributed to his ascent in Bangladesh's cricket ranks.

Nahid Rana Franchise Career

Nahid Rana has so far participated in only one franchise league which belongs to his own country, whose name is the Bangladesh Premier League. In the Bangladesh Premier League, Nahid Rana made his debut for Khulna Tigers on 24 January 2023 against Dominated. In the first match, Nahid Rana could not impress much and took one wicket for 20 runs in four overs at an economy of five.

In his first BPL tournament, Nahid Rana got to play only three matches in which he took two wickets, while in the Bangladesh Premier League held in 2024, Nahid Rana was seen playing in only two matches in which he took only two wickets. Nahid Rana has played a total of five matches so far for the Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League, in which he has taken four wickets at an economy of 9.44.

Nahid Rana started his Test career against Sri Lanka in March 2024, but before that in September 2023, his name was included in the Bangladesh squad for the 2023 Asian Games, but he did not get a chance to play a single match there.

Nahid Rana started his Test career on 22 March 2024 against Sri Lanka at the Silhat Stadium where he impressed everyone by taking a total of three wickets with Shake Veer Dhananjaya de Silva in the first innings of the Test match and two wickets in the second innings, due to which he was included in the Bangladesh team for the two-Test series against Pakistan.

Nahid Rana contributed significantly to Bangladesh in the first Test series win against Pakistan, where he broke the back of Pakistan by taking four wickets in the second innings of the second Test match, while he also surprised everyone by bowling the fastest ball in the history of Bangladesh cricket in this series.

Nahid Rana has played a total of three matches in his Test career so far where he has taken wickets at an economy of 5.32, in which his best performance came against Pakistan where he took four wickets for 44 runs.

Nahid, originally from the Chapai Nawabganj district, began his cricket journey in 2020. After completing his Higher Secondary School Certificate that same year, he joined a cricket academy in Rajshahi to sharpen his skills. During his early days, Nahid served as a net bowler for the Rajshahi Division batters, where his impressive speed and bowling ability quickly caught the attention of selectors.
