Vidwath Kaverappa is an Indian cricketer born on February 25, 1999, in Coorg, Karnataka. He is primarily a right-arm fast-medium pacer and a right-handed batter. The youngster represents the Karnataka cricket team in the domestic arena and plays for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Vidwath Kaverappa Domestic Career

Vidwath Kaverappa made his domestic debut for Karnataka against Puducherry in Chennai in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season on March 3, 2022. On his first-class (FC) debut, he picked up a solitary wicket of Paras Dogra in the second innings of the match. The pacer made his T20 debut for Karnataka against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2022-23 season in Mohali on October 11, 2022.

In his maiden T20 outing, he was impressive with the ball and picked up a three-wicket haul. He returned with figures of 4-0-19-3 at an economy of 4.75. He ended the season as the second-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets in 10 innings at an average of 10.72, one short of Siddarth Kaul.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23 season, Kaverappa made his List-A debut for Karnataka versus Meghalaya in Kolkata on November 12, 2022. He picked up a solitary wicket, as Karnataka went on to win by a margin of 115 runs.

In the inaugural edition of the Maharaja T20 Trophy in 2022, Kaverappa represented Gulbarga Mystics and finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 13 innings at an average of 25.76. He moved to the Hubli Tigers in the 2023 season. In the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2024, the Karnataka pacer played for India D and picked up a couple of wickets in the form of Mayank Agarwal and Pratham Singh.

Vidwath Kaverappa IPL Career

Following his domestic efficiency, Vidwath Kaverappa landed a deal with the Punjab Kings at the IPL 2023 auction for INR 20 lakhs. He made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024. He burst onto the scene with the new ball and trapped RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and Will Jacks within the powerplay. However, sloppy fielding and dropped catches meant that Kaverappa was denied a debut to remember, which had also included the prized miss of opener Virat Kohli twice, who went on to score an unbeaten 92 and take the match out of PBKS’s reach.
