His performances in the BBL-9 earned him the Michael Hussey Medal as Thunder's Player of the Tournament, and he was later selected for a 21-man Australian One-Day and T20 squad to tour England. Sams made a name for himself as a productive all-rounder in the 2020–21 BBL season when he amassed 200 runs in 8 innings and claimed a few wickets.
However, his time at RCB came to a disappointing conclusion. After taking just one wicket in the 2021 season, the team dropped him the following year. He was fortunate to be selected by the Mumbai Indians before the 2022 Indian Premier League. In an outstanding spell, he claimed 13 wickets.
