Imrul Kayes: A Brief Biography

Imrul Kayes Biography

Imrul Kayes is a left handed opening batsman from Bangladesh.

Born on 2nd February, 1987 in Meherpur, Kushtia, Bangladesh, Kayes is known to perform better in the ODI format.

Kayes is also known as Sagor by his teammates, a name which he uses as a last name on his social account handle.

Background

Apart from cricket, Kayes also plays football in his childhood but he has been inclined towards cricket since an early age.

He has played First Class and List A career for Khulna division in 2006-07 and has also played for Victoria Sporting Club in the same year.

Debut

Kayes made his ODI debut against New Zealand in Chittagong in 2008. In the same year he made his Test debut against the same opponents.

Rise to glory

Kayes was the highest run-scorer for the Khulna division in the Bangladesh local league in 2007-08. This performance led to his inclusion Bangladesh national squad in 2008.

Club career

Kayes has featured for the Sylhet Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League(BPL) in 2012, before moving to the Comilla Victorians for BPL 2016.

Records

In 2015, in a match against Pakistan he shared a record opening partnership of 312 runs with Tamim Iqbal.

In 2016, in a Test series against New Zealand he replaced injured Mushfiqur and set the record for being the first substitute wicketkeeper to take 5 catches in Test cricket.
