Manzoor Dar Biography
Manzoor Ahmad Dar is an Indian professional cricketer who plays for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.
He was born on 1st November 1993, in a remote and nondescript village called Shigan Pora in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir.
He is only the second player from the terror-stricken Kashmir to make it to IPL stage. He plays as an all-rounder and is a right-handed batsman while bowling right-arm offbreak.
An explosive batsman, he is known for his big hitting and expertise in the shorter format of the game.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, he smacks the ball with pure power, with Abdul Qayoom, coach of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team describing him as “Mr. 100 metre sixer”.
A useful medium-pace bowler as well, he has six wickets from seven List A appearances.
Background
Dar’s story of success is something that would inspire future cricketers and make the Kashmiris hold their head up high.
Coming from a farmer’s family, he had 12 younger siblings to take care of. To support his family he worked as a woodcutter and a security guard to make both ends meet. Despite his obligations, he managed to help his family and focus on cricket simultaneously.
Debut
He made his debut for the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team on 30th January 2017 in the 2016-17 Inter State Twenty20 Tournament.
He made his List A debut in February 2017 for the J&K team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He took two wickets on his debut in the Vizay Hazare Trophy match against Hyderabad, but lost the match by 29 runs.
Rise to Glory
He shone in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Punjab as he scored 38 not out and took a wicket to guide Jammu and Kashmir to a 23 run victory. He rose to fame when he was signed for 20 Lakhs INR by Kings XI Punjab in the 2018 IPL auction.
