Murugan Ashwin IPL Career
With 10 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2015–16, leg break bowler M Ashwin secured a contract with Rising Pune Supergiants a month after finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker for Tamil Nadu. His T20 tournament economy rate of 5.52 helped him get a position with the new franchise despite the fact that he has only played three first-class matches.
At the 2016 Indian Premier League auction, he was the star grab by the franchise, having gone from a base price of Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 4.5 crores. The leggie was highly trusted by Dhoni and Fleming since he was a consistent net bowler for the Chennai Super Kings before they were suspended for two years before the 2016 season. He made a great impression in the season for Rising Pune Supergiants and finished with 10 wickets to his name.
But his path hasn't been steady since then. Over the years, he was never a regular member of any side's starting eleven. He joined the Delhi Daredevils after leaving the RPS, although he didn't get many opportunities there either. In 2018, Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him at auction for a sum of INR. 2.2 crore. Following his release in 2019, Kings XI Punjab acquired him for INR 20 lakhs. The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) signed him in 2019 for his base price of INR 20 lakhs, and he went on to have a somewhat lackluster season with them. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed the club management's belief in him by finishing with 10 wickets in 9 games at a remarkable average of 23 and an economy rate of 7.46 in the next season.
Following his release after three seasons with the Punjab franchise, he was roped in by the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.6 crores. He had a pretty decent season with the Mumbai Indians as their leg-spin attack by playing 8 matches in the season and claiming 9 wickets, with an economy of 7.86. Mumbai Indians had roped in him for his ability to break crucial partnerships in the middle overs.
However, he was released by the franchise and was snapped up by the Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 20 lakhs. He was benched was almost the entire season except for the two matches that he played and conceded 53 runs overall in the season with an economy of 13.25
