Jayant Yadav Career
Jayant Yadav started his domestic career in 2011 by making his debut in the Ranji Trophy for Haryana and took seven wickets in three games of his maiden first-class tournament. He was considered an all-rounder when he scored his first double-century in the Ranji Trophy in 2012.
After doing good in the Ranji season he got his chance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2012 and then in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2013.
Jayant got his first IPL contract in 2014 when Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed him for INR 10 Lakh but he had to wait for a year to feature in the tournament. Jayant has struggled in the IPL throughout his career bot both with the bat and the ball. Currently, Jayant has been associated with Gujrat Titans since its first season.
Jayant made his International debut in October 2016 in an ODI setup against New Zealand but the longer format has been his most comfortable zone to bat and bowl. He made his test debut just a month after his ODI debut against England at Visakhapatnam.
Jayant has been looking for a comeback since 2022 when he played his last game at Mohali against Sri Lanka in a Test setup.
Domestic Career
Jayant Yadav made his debut in first-class cricket against Gujarat in 2011 and helped his team win the match by taking six wickets. A year later, in 2012, his record-breaking partnership of 392 runs for the eighth wicket with Amit Mishra caught people's eye and threw a message that he could bat too. His share in the stand was of 211 runs, which was his maiden first-class century also.
In the Ranji season of 2014-15, Jayant took 33 wickets and led the highest wicket-taker list. The selectors did not let his performance go in vain and he was selected for the India A team for a triangular series against South Africa A and Bangladesh A.
In the Ranji Trophy season of 2016, Jayant Yadav scored 298 runs with the bat and picked 19 wickets with the ball, his all-round performance took him into the Indian team
IPL Career
Yadav’s transcendent performances in the 2014-15 season of Ranji Trophy invited IPL team owners to buy him and ultimately he was signed by Delhi Daredevils in the auction of the same year. In 2015, he played only 3 games and bowled with an economy rate of 4.14. After being with the Delhi franchise since 2015, Jayant Yadav was traded to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 12th season. Having featured in only 2 games in 2019, after staying for two seasons with Mumbai Indians Jayant moved to newly formed IPL team Gujrat Titans in 2022 for INR 1.7 crore. Changing the franchise didn’t affect his form in the shortest format of the game, he appeared in only six games for GT to date where he has scored just 34 runs and took only two wickets.

Jayant Yadav appeared in his maiden international game in 2016 in the longer format against England at Vishakhapatnam. A month later his test debut he made his debut in ODI format also in front of New Zealand at the same venue. Test has been his most loved format to play on. He has played played six tests and two ODIs, in 2022 he has played his last international game and since then he has been looking for a comeback.
ODI Career
In September 2016, Jayant’s name was added to the team to play against New Zealand, and on 29 October 2016, he got his ODI cap from his former Haryana teammate and legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag. In his debut match, he bowled 4 overs and took a wicket with a mind-boggling economy of 2.00.
Six years later on January 23, 2022, Jayant played his second and last white ball international game where he didn’t a single wicket and added just two runs on the board.
Test Career
On 17 November 2016, Jayant Yadav became the 286th Test player for India and Moeen Ali became his debut wicket. In his first three Test matches, he scored 221 runs at an average of 73.67, which included one century and one half-century.
In his third Test match, he scored a century and made a partnership of 241 runs with Virat Kohli, which is the seventh-highest 8th-wicket partnership across the globe. He also became the first batsman for India to score a century at number 9. His sole international century came against a decent bowling attack of England at Wankhede, Mumbai.
Jayant has played only six tests for India and in March 2022 he appeared in his last international game in this format. He has scored 248 runs at 31.00 with the highest score of 104 runs, along with the bat he has picked 16 wickets.
Background
Jayant lost his real mother, Lakshmi, in a plane crash in the year 1990. Initially, Jayant started bowling as a leg-spinner, but he had to soon change his style because of a funny incident he narrated in an interview. He said, “I started as a leg-spinner, but the funny story is that I have two first cousins who were also leg-spinners so they said it’s not allowed. You cannot have three-leg spinners in the family. At that point, I thought that was a thing and I turned to off-spin.” Jayant Yadav is married to his friend Disha Chawla on November 19, 2019.
