Vishwa Fernando: A Brief Biography

Vishwa Fernando Biography

Vishwa Fernando is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who is considered a bright prospect for the national team.

He was born on 18 September, 1991, in Colombo. He is a left-arm fast bowler.

Background

Besides representing Sri Lanka, he has played for teams like Uva Next, Sri Lanka Board President XI and Sri Lanka A.

His ability to generate good pace earned him a place in the 16-man squad against Pakistan in December 2013 but he failed to feature in any of the matches.

He was called to the 15-man squad against India after playing for the Board President XI in the tour match.

Debut

After warming the bench after the his first call-up to the national side, he made his Test debut against Australia in Galle on 4 August 2016.

He took the wicket of Joe Burns in his very first over. In that match, the Sri Lankan spinners took the rest of the wickets.

After the comeback of Sri Lanka’s premier fast bowlers like Lakmal and Dhammika Prasad, he couldn’t find a place in the national side for a year.

He played his second test against India on 12 August 2017 at Pallekele where he took 2 wickets in the first innings.

He made his ODI debut against India on 20 August at Dambulla. He couldn’t take a wicket until his third ODI where he dismissed Virat Kohli.

He remained wicketless in his only T20I against India on 20 December 2017.

Low Points

In his early days, Fernando’s ability to bowl fast impressed many but he has just played two Tests, six ODIs and one T20I.
