Born on December 22, 2001, in New Delhi, Harshit Pradeep Rana is one of the emerging fast bowlers of Indian cricket, who represents Delhi in the domestic arena and plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rana’s rapid pace and intense aggression have made him a red-hot commodity in the domestic circuit and he will be eyeing to replicate the same for the Indian cricket team soon. Harshit Rana comes from a background that exudes an aggressive brand of cricket from the capital city of India, New Delhi. The 22-year-old pacer has often remarked that aggression comes to him naturally and it has fuelled his passion for the game as a fast bowler.
Harshit Rana Domestic Career
Harshit Rana made his domestic debut in a List-A match for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23 season. Though he went wicketless, he was economical with the ball in his debut game.
Rana made his First-Class debut for Delhi against Assam in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season. He took a four-wicket haul on debut but the match was drawn. Added to his fiery pace, Rana has a First-Class century to his name, showcasing his batting skills down the order.
Rana featured in the India-A squad that finished as runners-up in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023. He picked up 7 wickets in 5 innings, including a four-wicket haul against the United Arab Emirates-A.
Harshit Rana IPL Career
Harshit Rana was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 20 lakhs as a replacement for the injured Jammu and Kashmir pacer Rasikh Salam during IPL 2022. He made his IPL debut against the Delhi Capitals and scalped his maiden wicket in the form of Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.
Rana was not utilized during his first two seasons, but he had a breakthrough season in IPL 2024, as he dazzled with the ball in the final over of KKR’s opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With Heinrich Klaasen running away with the game, Rana was given the task of bowling the most crucial last over with 13 runs in hand to defend. He dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed and Klaasen within no time with his variation as the Knight Riders won a thriller by 4 runs and obtained a hero in Rana.
In the same game, his on-field celebratory gesture against the Sunrisers opener Mayank Agarwal grabbed eyeballs.
Rana was having a terrific season with the ball and stitched a great partnership with Australian veteran Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora in KKR’s pace battery. However, was at the receiving end when he was handed a one-match ban for gesturing a flying kiss celebration after dismissing Abhishek Porel and was penalized with 100% of his match fee as well for breaching IPL’s code of conduct.
The KKR speedster finished the season on a high with his skipper Shreyas Iyer entrusting him with tough overs as the Knight Riders won their third IPL title and Rana finished as the team’s joint-second-highest wicket-taker along with Andre Russell by taking 19 wickets in 13 games, only behind spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

With a new-look squad assembled for India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July 2024 after the senior members were rested for sweating it out in the T20 World Cup 2024, Harshit Rana was expected to make a cut for the squad after his tremendous performance with the ball in IPL 2024.
After failing to make it to the initial squad, Rana was later called upon along with batter Sai Sudharsan and wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma after Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube were left stranded in the Caribbean owing to a hurricane.
With a maiden India call-up on his sleeve, Rana would be aiming to debut sooner rather than later and would be living his dream of playing in Indian colors.
