Career
Mohit Sharma started his cricket career by making his first-class debut for Haryana in 2011. Due to his excellent performance in the 2012–13 season, he was included in their team by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. This year, Mohit Sharma also made his debut in international cricket in the one-day format and after winning the Purple Cap for Chennai Super Kings in the 2014 IPL, he also got the opportunity to make his T20 International debut.
Mohit Sharma has been deprived of the longest format of cricket till now and has not been seen in any international format since 2015. Currently, Mohit Sharma is playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
Domestic Career
Mohit Sharma made his debut for Haryana in the 2011-12 season. He had a decent start to his first-class career. After the season, he was trained by Ian Pont. In the 2012-13 season, he played wonderfully and picked up 37 impressive wickets from seven matches with an average of 23. He ended up as the 5th highest wicket-taker in that season.
IPL Career
Mohit played for Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 season of the IPL and impressed the audience with his bowling ability. He was again bought by Chennai in the next season for Rs. 2 crores. He picked up 23 wickets in the 2014 IPL which made him the highest wicket-taker for an uncapped player in a single IPL season and he won the purple cap.
He then moved to Kings XI Punjab for the 2016 and 2017 season. The team brought him back using the Right to Match card for an amount of Rs. 2.4 crore. In the IPL Player Auction 2016, Mohit was signed up by Kings XI Punjab for INR 6.5 cr and represented them in the following three seasons. In the Player Auction before IPL 2020, the Delhi Capitals bought the Haryana pacer for INR 50 Lakh.
In the 2019 and 2020 IPL, Mohit Sharma got to play only one match each where he took one wicket respectively.
After 2020, Mohit Sharma was not included in the IPL team by any franchise for two consecutive years and he stayed away from IPL in these two years and it seemed that his career would probably end now. When two new teams Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Supergiants were formed in 2022, Mohit Sharma once again got a chance to make a comeback in the IPL.
After staying away from IPL for 2 years, Mohit Sharma made a brilliant comeback for Gujarat Titans in 2023 and became the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL by taking 27 wickets in 14 matches
International Career
After an excellent performance in the domestic season in 2013, Mohit Sharma was included in the Indian team for the ODI series on the Zimbabwe tour and he got the opportunity to play his first international match in the fourth ODI of the series. In his first match, Mohit took two wickets for just 26 runs in 10 overs.
Mohit Sharma also got the opportunity to play his first T20 match in the T20 series against Australia which toured India next year.
Mohit Sharma, who was once called the next star of the Indian team, has not been able to make a comeback in any international format since 2015 and the one-day match played against South Africa on October 25 at Wankhede proved to be the last international match of his cricket career.
ODI Career
Mohit Sharma on the back of impressive performances in the IPL made his ODI debut on 1 August 2013 vs Zimbabwe. After a good run, leading up to the World Cup he was selected for the quadrennial tournament which was held in Australia and New Zealand. He had 13 scalps to his name in the World Cup and stood as India’s 3rd highest wicket-taker. However, after the World Cup, Mohit Sharma fizzled out and could never really stage a comeback.
T20I Career
Mohit Sharma made his debut in T20 against Australia in 2014, picking up one wicket in that match. He got selected for the 2014 World T20 in Bangladesh. He picked up three wickets in the tournament for India. Overall, he played only 8 T20Is for India and took 6 wickets
