Pradeep Sangwan Career

Pradeep Sangwan had a promising start to his career, winning the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, being the first Under-19 draft in the IPL, and a brisk start to his Ranji career. However, his career never took off post failing a dope test in IPL 2013, and could not live up to his potential.

Pradeep Sangwan Domestic Career

Under the leadership of Virender Sehwag, Pradeep Sangwan made his domestic debut for Delhi against Services in the Ranji One-Day Trophy 2006-07 season in Chandigarh on February 20, 2007. He impressed on his List-A debut as he scalped a four-wicket haul and Delhi won the match by a comfortable margin of 8 wickets.

On April 03, 2007, Sangwan made his T20 debut for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh (HP) in the Inter-State T20 Tournament 2006-07 in Delhi. He was expensive in his maiden T20 outing and went wicketless.

On November 04, 2007, the Delhi pacer made his first-class (FC) debut for Delhi against Rajasthan during the 2007-08 season of Ranji Trophy. He picked up five wickets across the two innings as Delhi won by a huge margin of 172 runs. He impressed everyone with accurate fast bowling by taking 33 wickets at an average of 19.24 and finished the tournament as Delhi’s leading wicket-taker.

Sangwan played a couple of matches for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the now-defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2009-10 season. He also represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in two games in the CLT20 2012-13 season.

Pradeep Sangwan IPL Career

Pradeep Sangwan was picked up by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) as the first Under-19 draft for the inaugural edition of IPL, over Under-19 skipper Virat Kohli. It was one of the costliest misses in IPL history as Kohli became an IPL legend and a player of their own at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp.

He made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 02, 2008, but could not bag any wickets in the 4 overs he bowled. Sangwan represented the Delhi-based franchise for three straight years before Kolkata Knight Riders roped him into their squad in 2011.

The left-arm pacer not only lost his bowling form but also got into controversy as he tested positive for stanozolol, which is a prohibited steroid, following a dope test conducted during the 2013 IPL season and was slapped with a 15-month ban by the BCCI from all forms of cricket.

The now-defunct Gujarat Lions signed him up for INR 20 lakhs at the 2016 IPL auction. He was acquired by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2018 auction for INR 1.5 crores. Later on, he was bought for INR 20 lakhs in the IPL 2022 mega auction by the newly-inducted Gujarat Titans, but could not perform as per their expectations.

Apart from the initial three years at the Daredevils (now Capitals) where he had gotten a long run and picked up 29 wickets in 28 matches, neither was Sangwan handed a string of opportunities to prove his lethal left-arm pace nor could he establish himself in the given chances. He was released by the Titans ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

Pradeep Sangwan Captaincy

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19 season, Pradeep Sangwan replaced wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as Delhi’s skipper.

Pradeep Sangwan Under-19 Career

Pradeep Sangwan started his career by playing cricket for Delhi in the under-15 category in which he managed to take 31 wickets

.

After being selected in the Under-15 squad for Delhi, his performances won him a berth in India's squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008 in Malaysia, where he impressed everyone with eight wickets in India's successful campaign and was instrumental to India's success at the World Cup under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

In the same year, he was signed by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the Indian Premier League.
